A couple of years ago, a determined mother from London, England, took a bold step to change her life and that of her 24-year-old son. She attended one of our Paradigm Shift seminars in Phoenix, Arizona, bringing her son along. She had a heartfelt plea: “Come to America with me for this seminar. I’ll cover all the costs. It’s about paradigms, and I believe you need to change yours because I built them.”
From the moment we are conceived, our minds are shaped by genetic programming. This subconscious programming begins in infancy when our conscious mind is not yet active, leaving us vulnerable to the beliefs and ideas of those around us. As infants, our subconscious mind absorbs everything like a sponge. The words, beliefs, and ideas from our parents, the media, and our environment enter our subconscious without a filter.
Interestingly, many of these beliefs are passed down through generations. Consequently, some of the beliefs we hold might be outdated or even irrational, yet they shape our reality because of our early programming.
While genetics play a role, our environment is even more influential in shaping our paradigms. As infants, everything happening around us goes straight into our subconscious, creating a foundation for our belief system. This environment continues to shape us throughout our lives.
Consider the high recidivism rate among ex-prisoners. Having worked in prisons for five years, I saw that the environment within the prison system perpetuates criminal behavior. Prisoners often talk about their crimes, creating a competitive atmosphere where they try to outdo each other's stories. When they are released, they gravitate back to the same environments that led to their incarceration because it’s what they know and where they feel in harmony.
Reflect on your childhood environment. What beliefs did the people who raised you hold? What were their views on money, religion, and your potential? Were you told that you could achieve anything, or were you made to feel inadequate? These repeated messages formed your self-image and set the stage for your paradigm.
Your self-image is just one aspect of the paradigm shaped by your environment. Your language, dietary habits, and interactions with others all contribute to the paradigm that governs your life.
No one wakes up wanting to change their paradigm. What we desire are better results in various areas of our lives, be it finances, relationships, health, or business success. However, to achieve these results, we must shift our paradigms.
Changing your paradigm isn’t about sheer willpower. There are two effective methods:
To start, consciously choose a new belief that supports your desired results. Repeat this belief with feeling, as if you already possess what you want. Additionally, replace negative habits with positive ones. Even small changes in your paradigm can lead to significant improvements in your life.
